What is Advanced Driving about?
Advanced Driving is about planning and allowing time to complete plans safely.
Advanced Driving is based around a system called IPSGA. This breaks down every situation and manoeuvre into five sections:
Information, Position, Speed, Gear and Acceleration. Click the links on the left for more information.
What will I do?
Practise for the test is given by volunteers called observers.
You will use your own car, hence we do not charge for practice runs.
Tests are only applied for once a senior observer has conducted a ‘mock’ test.
The real test lasts about an hour and is a chance to show off your skills.
Most candidates soon stop feeling nervous.
Why should I be an Advanced Motorist?
Advanced Drivers are 70% less likely to be involved in a traffic accident
Advanced drivers enjoy lower insurance costs (through discounts and reduced claims)
Your car will use less fuel, tyres last longer and break down less
Who can be an Advanced Motorist?
Anybody who has held a driving license for three months or more with six points or less.
Is the Advanced Test within my reach?
Most people are able to take the test after about eight drives with our Observers. Our first time pass rate is around 85%.
